CAPE HORN

Saturday Dec 13 - Cape Horn

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Horn

Last evening we set sail from Port Stanley for Cape Horn. This morning we got up to cloudy skys and 8 degree temperature with about 25kn winds. The seas started out at slight and ended up at moderate. Still nice cruising with slight motion on the ship. The day did not warm up and the clouds got lower. Prior to arriving at the Cape their was the Baptisim of all polywogs (first time around the Cape) which raised our status to "Honorary Fugeans". Yes a ladle of salt water was poured over our heads. We had a presentation on Magelan and the Cape prior to arriving which gave us reidea what we would see and why the waters around the Cape are so dangerous for small and large vessels. The clouds were high enough that we were able to see the monument erected for lost sailors. We sailed past the Cape then headed north and west to Ushuaia.
